We deeply appreciate your prayers for our family. the pain of a loss is a reflection of love, but you never regret loving as hard as you can grief is not something we will “recover” from In reading a bit about grief, a few things resonate with us: we ask for signs and she’s very generous with them. we set her place at the dinner table each night and say hello to her when we say grace. We talk about charlotte all the time, and hope you do as well. knowing you think about charlotte helps mend our broken hearts in tiny but helpful ways. every text, memory or photo shared restores us. the outpouring of love and support has been comforting, but even more so are your stories. ![]() last night all the twins’ friends came, then headed up to crocker together to honor her in a special way.Ĭhar touched so many lives in ways we didn’t know. charlotte would have loved these nights so much. we usually make one of char’s favorite meals, catch up, laugh and cry. six months later, we are still doing the dinners and finding comfort in each other. Shortly after she passed away, charlotte’s friends began coming over for dinner. most days we are in disbelief this happened. waves come at unexpected times and rip through our hearts. grief feels like a cold, deep, dark ocean. it is impossible to find meaning from a loss this deep. We have spent the last six months thinking, praying, crying, reminiscing and wondering. she is everywhere, seemingly still doing things her own way. when we came onto the porch to get a better look, it fluttered away. as we headed out for a morning walk, a huge butterfly was pressed against our front window and it took our breath away. on the one month anniversary of her passing, we woke up to a very difficult day ahead. the details of her last day and night with us are still so vivid, but very painful.Ĭhar’s spirit is incredibly strong. Some days it feels like an eternity, other days it seems recent. Today is charlotte’s six month angel anniversary. It brings us some comfort doing it and knowing her spirit lives on. We’ve been scattering her ashes in various locations, often in places that held special meaning to Charlotte. Charlotte’s absence is palpable, and even more so on family trips. We continue to take life a moment at a time. From the many conversations we’ve had with others, we know Charlotte was so loved and touched so many lives. The funding mentioned above would not be possible without your generous donations. The experience was bittersweet, knowing the research will hopefully benefit children with osteosarcoma, but not in enough time for Charlotte. Because of your generosity, we awarded over $100,000 in Char’s name to osteo researchers. We attended MIB’s annual conference where we reconnected with many families and doctors, and reviewed promising research proposals focused on osteosarcoma. We also created a fund to honor Char at MIB Agents, an organization focused on making it better for osteosarcoma. It was a very beautiful, difficult and emotional day for all of us. Following the reception, we went to see the plaque with her name at the nursing station she visited so often. Several of her doctors and nurses shared memories of Charlotte at a reception the hospital recently held for our family. ![]() Our family is deeply moved to know that Charlotte’s name is there in perpetuity. UCSF named the nursing station on the oncology floor of the children’s hospital in memory of Char. The fundnow supports nursing education, wellness, and professional development. We established a fund at UCSF to honor Charlotte’s desire to become a nurse and to honor the compassionate oncology nurses at UCSF who cared for her. We are incredibly humbled by your generosity. UCSF recently wrote an article in their summer publication about Charlotte’s cancer journey. We have several updates to share since we last posted a few months ago. ![]()
